Agricultural and pastoral land during the colonial period in Brazil. Private land that was divided by the donatário (lord) of the feudal Capitania to Christians who wanted to engage in agricultural and pastoral work. Although the rule stipulated that each person be granted three square leagues, some people acquired several sesmarías through personal favors, and some even had vast farms measuring several tens of square leagues.
