Logopoioi (English spelling)

Japanese: ロゴポイオイ（英語表記）logopoioi

In ancient Greek, the name means "storytellers." It is also called logographoi (singular logographos). Early Greek chroniclers, the forerunners of historians such as Herodotus. Many of them were from Ionia, and were active in the 6th and 5th centuries BCE. In prose, they uncritically recorded the founding traditions of cities, gods, and heroes. Kadmos of Miletus, Hecataeus, Charon of Lampsacus, Xanthos of Lydia, and Hellanicos of Mytilene are said to have written many works, but only fragments remain today.

古代ギリシア語で〈物語の語り手〉の意。ロゴグラフォイlogographoi(〈物語作者〉の意。単数形logographos)ともいう。ギリシア初期の年代記作家たちで，ヘロドトスのような歴史家の先駆をなす。彼らの多くはイオニア出身者で，前6～前5世紀に活躍。散文によって諸都市の創設伝承や神々，英雄の系譜などを無批判的に記録した。ミレトスのカドモスKadmos，ヘカタイオス，ランプサコスのカロンCharōn，リュディアのクサントスXanthos，ミュティレネのヘラニコスHellanikosなどが輩出し，多くの作品を書いたといわれるが，現在ではその断片が伝わっているにすぎない。
