The noble fronde

The noble fronde

The Fronde rebellion was a reaction to the desire to maintain traditional privileges and customs, and it was this reaction that suddenly came to the surface in the form of the Fronde. The rebellion unfolded in two stages: the early Fronde of the High Court (1648-49) which began in Paris, and the Fronde of the Princes (1649-53) which spread nationwide.
[The Fronde of the High Court]
In January 1648, the royal government issued a royal decree to create new government offices and to suspend the payment of salaries to office holders for four years, as a means of resolving the wartime financial crisis.
