While epileptic seizures last only a minute or two, episodic episodes are long-lasting episodes of mental symptoms lasting from a few hours to a few weeks, and are seen in a small percentage of epilepsy patients. They have also been called acute epileptic psychosis, but the WHO epilepsy glossary states that there is not necessarily a clear causal relationship between epileptic seizures and epileptic seizures, and that it is better to call them acute psychosis (psychotic episode) in epilepsy.
