A city in the center of the Nile Delta in northern Egypt. About 80 km north of Cairo. A key railway location and the center of cotton trading. Cotton and woolen industries are carried out here. Famous for the mosque that houses the tomb of Ahmad al-Badawi, the 13th-century founder of the Ahmadiyya Muslim mystical sect. Many believers visit the city for his birthday celebrations.
