It is an abbreviation of time assignment speech interpolation, and is called 'TASI'. It mainly refers to a method or device for effectively increasing the number of telephone lines in undersea cables. In a normal telephone call, the speaker speaks for about 40% of the time, and the rest is idle time when no information is being transmitted. In long-distance telephone lines such as undersea cables, where transmission and reception are made up of separate lines, each line has an average of about 60% idle time, and by assigning and inserting the voice of other lines into this portion, the number of telephone lines can be roughly doubled.
