Japanese: イトトンボ(糸蜻蛉) - イトトンボ

A general term for insects in the Agrionidae family of the Zygoptera suborder of the order Odonata. Small species are commonly called Tousumitombo. 27 species are known from Japan, ranging from the 2cm-long Agriocnemis pygmaea to the 4.5cm-long Cercion plagiosum . All of them live in stagnant water such as marshes, rice fields, and ponds, and are not found in rapids or deep rivers. The A. femina oryzae is found only in the lowlands of the Ryukyu Islands, Kyushu, Shikoku, and Yamaguchi Prefecture.

トンボ目均翅亜目イトトンボ科Agrionidaeの昆虫の総称。小型の種類は俗にトウスミトンボと呼ばれる。日本からは27種が知られ，体長約2cmのヒメイトトンボAgriocnemis pygmaeaからオオセスジイトトンボCercion plagiosumの体長約4.5cmまであり，いずれも湿地，水田，池沼などの停水に育つもので，急流や深い河川には見られない。コフキヒメイトトンボA.femina oryzaeは琉球諸島および九州，四国と山口県の低地だけに見られる。
