A city in southeastern Hokkaido. Established as a city in 1933. Location of the Tokachi Comprehensive Development Bureau. Located almost in the center of Tokachi Province, in the center of the Tokachi Plain, Obihiro has been developed since the mid-Meiji period, and has developed into the center of Hokkaido's field crops and a distribution center for beans and grains from the surrounding area. The Nemuro Main Line runs through the city. As the Tokachi Plain shifted from a specialty of beans and grains to diversified management such as sugar beet, flax, potatoes, and dairy farming, light industries such as food processing such as starch, glucose, dairy products, sugar beet, and canned foods, hemp manufacturing, and lumber manufacturing became popular. In particular, dairy and sugar factories are large-scale. The city has an unusual layout with a grid pattern with X-shaped areas added in some places. Obihiro Airport has flights from Tokyo, Osaka, and other areas. ^{619.34 km2} . 168,057 people (2010).

北海道南東部の市。1933年市制。十勝総合振興局所在地。十勝国のほぼ中央，十勝平野の中心にあり，明治中期以降開拓が進み，北海道の畑作の中心地，周辺の豆類，雑穀の集散地として発展。根室本線が通じる。十勝平野が豆類，雑穀の特産地から，テンサイ，アマ，ジャガイモ，酪農などの多角経営に移行するにつれ，デンプン，ブドウ糖，乳製品，テンサイ糖，かん詰などの食品加工，製麻，製材などの軽工業が盛んになった。特に製酪・製糖工場は大規模。市街は碁盤目状で一部にX状を加えた珍しい区画がなされている。帯広空港には東京，大阪などから便がある。619.34km²。16万8057人（2010）。
