Hermosillo
The capital of Sonora State in northwestern Mexico. Founded in the early 18th century along the Sonora River, 250 km south of the US border. Irrigation facilities were built in the 1960s, making it the center of a modern agricultural region, and in recent years it has developed into an industrial city centered on the copper industry. Population: 715,061 (2010).
