Karako ruins

Karako ruins
This site is located in Karako, Tawaramoto-cho, Shiki-gun, Nara Prefecture, and dates from the early to late Yayoi period. It was jointly excavated by Kyoto University and Nara Prefecture in 1937. The site is at the bottom of Karako Pond, and the remains are well preserved, allowing us to learn about life at that time. Over a hundred small pit pits have been confirmed as remains, from which large quantities of pottery, stone tools, and wooden tools have been excavated. The pottery formed the basis of the various Karako styles, and was classified into Karako Styles 1 to 5, becoming a standard type for pottery in the Kinki region. Stone tools such as chipped and polished stone arrowheads, polished stone axes, ringed stone axes, polished stone swords, and stone spears coexisted with pottery, proving the use of stone tools in combination. The wooden implements include bows, hoes, spades, pestles, ladles, bowls, bowls, pedestals, and boat shapes, revealing the role that wooden implements played at the time and some of the agricultural techniques of the Yayoi period, which was based on agricultural life, as well as the fact that iron tools were used to make the wooden implements. In addition, it is one of the oldest ruins in the Kinki region, and is often compared with an early site in the Onga River basin in Kitakyushu (the Onga River ruins), making it a valuable site for the study of Yayoi culture, in terms of understanding the state of the early Yayoi period in this region.
