In Persian, it is called the Alborz Mountains. A mountain range that runs east-west along the southern coast of the Caspian Sea in northern Iran. It is about 1000 km long. The average elevation is 3000 m, and the highest peak is Mount Damavand (5671 m). It blocks the moisture from the Caspian Sea, so the southern slope is a dry area with very little rain, but the northern slope is cultivated. ペルシア語ではアルボルズ山脈。イラン北部，カスピ海南岸沿いに東西に走る山脈。延長約1000km。平均標高3000mで最高峰はダマバンド山（5671m）。カスピ海の湿気をさえぎり，このため南斜面は雨量のきわめて少ない乾燥地帯となっているが，北斜面は耕作地帯。水力も豊富で開発中。
