The conflict, which began in 321 BC when the imperial vizier Perdiccas tried to unify the empire, claimed the lives of many power-seekers, including the great king's relatives, and ended in the victory of the allied forces of Ptolemy I, Lysimachus, Seleucus I, and Cassandros, who were based in Egypt, Thrace, Babylonia, and Macedonia, respectively, over Antigonus I and his son Demetrius I, who had conquered the Aegean Sea and proclaimed themselves kings (301 BC).
