Japanese: 石灰植物 - せっかいしょくぶつ

A plant common in limestone areas. It is sometimes used in the narrow sense of limestone plants that grow only in limestone areas. In contrast to calcifuge, which is a plant that grows rarely in limestone areas, calciophile is also called calcareous plant. In terms of distribution, calcareous plants include those that grow widely in limestone areas but are not found anywhere else, such as maidenhair fern and spider fern, and those that grow in limestone areas but are not found anywhere else, such as hornbeam and mountain peony, which are common in limestone areas but can also be found in other parent rocks.

石灰岩地帯に多い植物。石灰岩地帯にのみ分布する石灰岩植物という狭い意味で使うこともある。石灰岩地帯にはほとんど分布しない植物を嫌石灰植物calcifugeというのに対して，好石灰植物ともいう。分布のしかたからみて，石灰植物にはイチョウシダ，クモノスシダのように石灰岩地帯には広く分布するが，それ以外ではみられず，石灰岩地帯に限られるものと，イワシデ，ヤマシャクヤクのように石灰岩地帯に多いが他の母岩にもみられるものがある。
