Most astronomical observation equipment has a mechanism for tracking the movement of celestial bodies. Astronomical telescopes on the ground use equatorial mounts and clocks to track the diurnal motion of celestial bodies with a fairly good degree of accuracy. Large radio telescopes are mounted on altitudinal mounts and are controlled by computers. In recent years, computer control of astronomical observation equipment has advanced significantly, and by correcting for telescope deflection and atmospheric refraction, a tracking error of a few arc seconds can be achieved regardless of whether the telescope is equatorial or altitudinal.
