A small bamboo of the Poaceae family. It is commonly found growing wild in the Kanto region and other parts of eastern Japan. Like Nezasa, it has a long, thin underground stem, and culms grow upright at the nodes. It grows 2-5m tall, with dense branches growing from each node. The culms are hollow and about 1cm in diameter. イネ科の小型のタケ。関東地方をはじめ,東日本各地にごく普通に自生する。ネザサと同様,地下に細く長い地下茎がはい,節から稈が直立する。高さ2~5mで各節から枝を密生する。稈は中空で径 1cm前後,関東地方で俗にシノダケと呼ぶのはこの種をさすことが多い。
