Japanese: 会奉行 - えぶぎょう

The title of a priest's role in Buddhist ceremonies. He is the administrative manager of a relatively large-scale ceremony. In the planning and preparation stage of a ceremony, he gives appropriate instructions to all aspects in setting the date and time, assignment (assignment of roles), solemnity (preparation of the dojo), clothing and sash (clothing), and program. During the ceremony, he keeps a close eye on the progress and takes thorough measures to prevent any mistakes. He plays a role equivalent to a guardian, such as guiding people entering and leaving the hall and the order of the seats, and encouraging and assisting each role in their behavior.

仏教儀式における僧侶の役名。比較的規模の大きい法会の事務的統括者である。法会の企画準備段階では，日時･差定（さじよう）(諸役の割りふり)･荘厳（しようごん）(道場の準備)･衣帯（えたい）(服装)･次第(プログラム)の設定にあたり，各方面に適切な指示を与える。法会の間は進行を注視し，過誤が生じないように周到な措置を講じる。入退堂や座次の案内をし，各役の所作を喚起し補佐するなど，後見に相当する役割を果たす。
