...They are characterized by rows of irregularly sized scales on their hind legs. Outside of the genus Lacertilia, four species of the genus Lacertilia are found in the Ryukyu Islands and Ogasawara Islands, and the Miyako skink Emoia atrocostata is found in the Miyako Islands. The Miyako skink is an elegant species that lives near the coast, with a total length of about 18 cm, and is widely distributed outside of Japan in Taiwan, Southeast Asia, New Guinea, and islands in the Western Pacific.
