Year of death: Hōki 11.3.22 (780.5.1) Year of birth: Year of birth unknown. A nobleman of the Nara period. Son of Umi, son of Kimaro. In January 758, he became a senior sixth rank and Hokuriku Do Monminkushi (also known as Momikushi), and in January 7, he was promoted to junior fifth rank and became an official in Dazaifu (Dazaifu City). After that, he served as local officials such as Satsuma no Kami, Chikugo no Kami, Mino no Suke, and Kawachi no Kami, and according to the Shoku Nihongi, he was a capable official who was faithful to his duties. After becoming vice shogun of the junju in July 774, he was in charge of the subjugation of the Emishi in the Tohoku region, and after serving as Ansatsushi (administrative supervisor) of Mutsu Province and junju shogun, he was promoted to councilor in February 778. However, the following February, while staying at Iji Castle (Tsukidate Town, Miyagi Prefecture), he was killed in a rebellion by his subordinate, Iji Ishimaro, the chief lord of Iji County. Ikamaro, who was from the Emishi region and highly trusted by Hirozumi, is said to have secretly harbored resentment.
