Year of death: Tempo 3.11.23 (1832.12.14) Year of birth: 1793 A minor villain from the late Edo period. Commonly known as Nao-zamurai. Born as the second son of a Hatamoto travelling servant. He committed crimes together with Kawachiyama Soshun and was imprisoned, but was banished in Bunsei 7 (1824). He was arrested for extortion again and executed at Kozukahara in Senju, Edo. His body was taken by Michizai, a prostitute from Yoshiwara Oguchiya, with whom he had a regular business, and a grave was built at Ekoin Temple. The story of Michizai Nao-zamurai in the kabuki play "Ten'imushi Ueno Hatsuhana" written by Kawatake Mokuami, has become a love story that is often performed independently.
