…A general term for insects belonging to the order Coleoptera. The name was derived from the translation of the scientific name Coleoptera, the English name beetle, and the German name Käfer into "kobuchimushi" during the Meiji period. In addition, the upper wings (forewings) are sheath-like and cover the back, so the technical term is Coleoptera.
