Hollywood Ten

Japanese: ハリウッド･テン（英語表記）Hollywood Ten

The term refers to ten Hollywood filmmakers who were called as witnesses to a hearing of the House of Representatives Un-American Activities Committee in 1947, refused to testify, were charged with "contempt of Congress," and were expelled from the film industry. In 1950, the Supreme Court upheld their convictions and sent them to federal prison. The ten were Herbert Biberman (producer and director), Edward Dmytryk (director), Adrian Scott (producer and screenwriter), Alva Bessie (screenwriter), Lester Cole (screenwriter), Ring Lardner Jr. (screenwriter), John Howard Lawson (screenwriter), Albert Maltz (screenwriter), Samuel Ornitz (screenwriter), and Dalton Trumbo (screenwriter).
