(1) An old name for infectious diseases that are generally acute, have systemic symptoms, and occur in groups. It can also be read as yakubyo. In the Kojiki it is referred to as eyami, and in the Nihon Shoki it is referred to as enonyamai. (2) Agricultural epidemics are diseases caused by the Phytophthora genus of oomycetes that attack the leaves, stems, and fruits of many plants, including potatoes, tobacco, tomatoes, and melons. Potato blight is a typical example, and it causes the most damage. At first, the lesions appear waterlogged, then turn greenish-brown and soften. When humidity is high, frost-like spores can be seen on the lesions. Copper and zineb agents are used for control. Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
