Hida Metamorphic Belt

Japanese: 飛驒変成帯 - ひだへんせいたい

Geologically, this tectonic unit is located at the innermost part of the Inner Zone of Southwest Japan (closer to the Asian continent), and is distributed around the Hida Highlands, the Noto Peninsula, and the Oki Islands. It is made up of a variety of metamorphic rocks, including quartz-feldspathic gneiss, alumina-rich gneiss, breccia, and calcareous gneiss, and the granites (collectively known as the Funatsu granites) that intrude through these. Most of the metamorphic rocks are of the high-temperature, low-pressure type, but some are of the medium-pressure type. The age of the parent rocks has not been determined, but radiometric ages suggest several overlapping metamorphic events from the late Precambrian to the early Mesozoic.

地質構造上，西南日本内帯の最も内側(アジア大陸側)に位置する構造単元で，飛驒高地周辺，能登半島および隠岐島に分布する。石英長石質片麻岩，アルミナに富む片麻岩，角セン岩，石灰質片麻岩など，多様な変成岩類と，これらを貫く花コウ岩類(一括して船津花コウ岩類と呼ばれる)からなる。変成岩類は，大部分高温･低圧型であるが，一部に中圧型もある。原岩の時代は未確定であるが，放射年代は，先カンブリア時代後期から中生代前期にいたる何回かの重複変成作用を示唆している。
