Basarabia

…the former name of the region of the present Republic of Moldova. In Romanian, it is called Basarabia. The region is surrounded by the Dniester and Prut rivers and the Black Sea. The southern part is flat and once belonged to the steppe region that connected to Inner Asia. The northern part has no high mountains, but is mostly hilly, with a branch of the Carpathian Mountains running through it.
