AMVER system

Abbreviation for automated mutual assistance vessel rescue system, a system for reporting ship positions aimed at enabling rapid rescue operations in the event of an emergency at sea. Managed by the U.S. Coast Guard. Launched in 1958. Membership in this system is voluntary, and a ship is considered to be a member of the system if it reports its ship's name and voyage plan to the Amber Center when it leaves port. After leaving port, it reports its position at intervals of about 15 degrees of latitude or longitude change, and also immediately before entering port.

automated mutual assistance vessel rescue systemの略称で，洋上で非常事態が発生したとき，迅速に救難活動が行えることを目的とした船の位置通報制度のこと。アメリカの沿岸警備隊が管理している。1958年に発足。この制度への加入は任意であって，出港の際アンバー･センターに船名や航海計画などを通報すれば，このシステムに加盟したものとみなされる。出港後は緯度または経度が15゜変化する程度の間隔で位置を通報し，入港直前にも通報する。
