A Japanese newspaper published in Los Angeles, USA. It was founded in April 1903 by Yamaguchi Masaharu, Shibuya Seijiro, and Iijima Eitaro (originally published as a mimeograph, then in letterpress on November 3rd of the same year). The management changed several times, but in October 1908 it was reorganized as a joint-stock company. From about 1910 onwards, it focused on a reporting-first approach and established itself as the leading paper in the Japanese community. There was a tradition that successive publishers had little interference with the editorial process, and there was a kind of "editorial independence." In 1926, the circulation reached approximately 8,500 copies, the highest it had been before World War II. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
