[Founding of the Principality of Wallachia]
According to the chronicles, the founding of Wallachia was in 1290, but the first date confirmed by historical fact is 1324. According to the chronicles, the Vlakhs of the Fágarás Kingdom, located in the mountainous region of Transylvania, moved south to found the state, but it is believed that Knez, who was already in the left bank of the Olt River, expanded his power and moved his center from Kampulung to Argeš, and founded the state under Prince Basarab (reigned 1310?-52), who expelled Hungarian forces. As for why Wallachia was founded in the early 14th century, possible reasons include the population increase (it is said that there were about 2,000 villages of various sizes in Wallachia at that time), the improvement of living conditions, and the strengthening of Knez's political power. However, we cannot ignore the international situation surrounding the region, such as the destruction of the Cuman Kingdom by the Mongolian expedition, which turned the region into a political vacuum, and Prince Basarab's opportunity to win due to internal strife in the Kingdom of Hungary.
