The kingdom was strengthened during the reign of Ballala II (1173-1220), who defeated the Chalukyas and Yadava kingdoms to gain independence, and then allied with the Chola dynasty to oppose the Pandya dynasty and establish a foothold in the Tamil region. However, after being defeated by Malik Kafur of the Khalji dynasty in 1310, it went into decline and was finally defeated by the emerging kingdom of Vijayanagar. ...
