An annual plant of the Asteraceae family found from eastern Asia to Australia (illustration). It grows in the shade of gardens and on roadsides. The stems are well branched, crawling along the ground and sending out roots in places. Even the largest main stems are only about 20 cm long. The leaves are wedge-shaped, 1-2 cm long and alternate. Flowers appear from July to October as small flower heads 3-4 mm in diameter in the leaf axils. The flower heads are sessile or short-stalked, oblate-globular, with multiple rows of tubular female flowers at the edges and a tubular bisexual flower in the center. The corolla of the female flower is 0.2 mm long, while the corolla of the bisexual flower is 0.5 mm long and has four lobes at the tip.
