Around 1370 - 1427
Italian painter. Born in Fabriano in the Marche region of central Italy. It is recorded that he stayed in Venice in 1408 and in Brescia in 1414, where he worked on murals, but no works remain. Influenced by the then-fashionable International Gothic style from this trip to northern Italy, he produced an altarpiece, The Adoration of the Magi, in Florence in 1423. The painting is reminiscent of a court scroll, with the picture plane filled with elegant people in splendid costumes and rare exotic plants and animals, making it a typical example of the International Gothic style.

イタリアの画家。中部イタリア，マルケ地方のファブリアーノ生れ。1408年にベネチアに，14年にはブレシアに滞在し，壁画の仕事に従事していたことが記録されているが，作品は現存しない。この北イタリア旅行により，流行の国際ゴシック様式の影響を受け，23年にフィレンツェで祭壇画《三博士の参拝》を制作。この作品は宮廷絵巻を思わせるほどに，画面が，豪華な衣装に身を包んだみやびやかな人々や異国趣味的な珍しい動植物で埋め尽くされ，国際ゴシック様式の典型例となっている。
