Material balance - mass balance

Also known as mass balance. A basic concept and method for analyzing systems that handle the flow of material, such as chemical processes. Material balance is based on the law of conservation of mass of a substance. This principle states that in a continuous process at steady state, the amount of material entering and leaving the system per unit time must be exactly balanced, since material is conserved. The material that is conserved here varies depending on the conditions. In a non-reactive system, each molecule is conserved, and in a reactive system, each element is conserved.

質量収支ともいう。化学プロセスなど物質の流れを扱うシステムを解析するための基本的な概念と方法。物質収支の基本となるのは物質の質量の保存則である。物質は保存されるから定常状態にある連続プロセスでは，単位時間にシステムに出入する物質の量はちょうどつり合っていなければならないという原則である。ここで保存される物質というのは，条件によって変わる。反応のない系では各分子が，反応する系では各元素が，それぞれ保存される。
