Titanium sulfate is known to exist in compounds with titanium oxidation states III and IV. [Titanium(III) sulfate] Chemical formula: Ti 2 (SO 4 ) 3 . It is produced by electrolytic reduction of an aqueous solution of titanium(IV) sulfate Ti(SO 4 ) 2 with sulfuric acid. It is a green crystal. It is insoluble in water, ethyl alcohol, ether, and concentrated sulfuric acid, but dissolves in dilute sulfuric acid and hydrochloric acid to turn purple. [Titanium(IV) sulfate] The chemical formula is Ti(SO 4 ) 2 . When titanium(IV) chloride is reacted with sulfur trioxide in sulfuryl chloride (SO 2 Cl 2) , an anhydrate is obtained, and when titanium sulfate(III) is heated with nitric acid, a hydrate is obtained.
