She was the wife of Sigibert, King of Austrasia, a part of the Frankish Kingdom. She was of Visigothic royal lineage. She was also called Brunichilde. Her sister Garswind also became the wife of Hilperich, King of Neustria, but was assassinated by her concubine Fredegunde (c. 550-597). The conflict between Fredegunde, who became queen, and Brunhilde became the cause of unrest. As guardian of her son Hildebert II and grandson Theudebert II, she held real power in Austrasia. Pursued by the nobles, she regained power under her grandson Theudebert II, King of Burgundy.

フランク王国のアウストラシア分国王ジギベルトの妃。西ゴート王家出身。ブルニヒルデBrunichildeとも呼ばれる。妹ガルスビントもネウストリア分国王ヒルペリヒの妃となったが，妾フレデグンデFredegunde(550ころ‐597)に暗殺された。王妃となったフレデグンデとブルンヒルデとの対立が動乱の原因となる。子ヒルデベルト2世および孫テウデベルト2世の後見人としてアウストラシアの実権を握る。貴族勢力に追われ，孫のブルグント分国王テウデリヒ2世のもとで再び権勢の座に就く。
