Tenryu [city] - Tenryu

Japanese: 天竜[市] - てんりゅう

An old city in western Shizuoka prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1958. The Tenryu River flows south, and the central city of Futamata is in the river valley at the southern end, through which the Tenryu Hamanako Railway passes. It is one of Japan's most beautiful forest areas, and Tenryu timber such as cedar and cypress is collected and distributed, and lumber is thriving. Tea and shiitake mushrooms are also cultivated. In addition to lumber, automobile-related companies have been attracted to the area. In July 2005, Hamamatsu City was incorporated into Hamamatsu City along with Hamakita City, Haruno Town in Shuchi District, Sakuma Town in Iwata District, Misakubo Town, Tatsuyama Village, Maisaka Town in Hamana District, Yutome Town, Hosoe Town in Inasa District, Inasa Town, and Mikkabi Town. ^{181.65 km2} . 静岡県西部の旧市。1958年市制。天竜川が南流，南端の河谷に中心市街の二俣(ふたまた)があり，天竜浜名湖鉄道が通じる。日本有数の美林地帯で，スギ，ヒノキなど天竜材を集散，製材が盛ん。茶・シイタケ栽培も行われる。工業では製材のほか自動車関連企業などが誘致された。2005年７月浜北市，周智郡春野町，磐田郡佐久間町，水窪町，龍山村，浜名郡舞阪町，雄踏町，引佐郡細江町，引佐町，三ヶ日町と浜松市へ編入。181.65km²。２万2695人（2003）。
