...One of the musical pieces, "The Woman Without a Shadow" (1919), was also written in the form of a novel, and the plot, in which a shadowless fairy princess finally obtains a shadow after going through the hardships of the human world, metaphorically expresses the direction of the author's heart as he seeks a way from dreams to reality. "Andreas," a story about a young nobleman born in Vienna, also depicts the process by which a naive dreamer grows up while being subjected to harsh reality, and the tragedy "The Tower" (1925, 27), based on the Spanish Baroque playwright Calderon's "Life is a Dream," also has awakening from a dream as its theme. However, "Andreas" was left unfinished (published posthumously in 1932), and "The Tower" was extremely difficult to arrive at a final draft. ...
