Greek astronomer from 310-230 BC. From the island of Samos. Known as the creator of the heliocentric system of the universe. In Greece, the Pythagoreans had a system in which all celestial bodies, including the Sun and the Earth, revolved around a central fire, and Herakleides of Pontos (c. 388-c. 315 BC) is said to have considered the rotation of the Earth on its axis, but Aristarchus was the first to consider the rotation of the Earth on its axis and its revolution around the Sun.
