Ena Gorge

Japanese: 恵那峡 - えなきょう
Ena Gorge

This scenic spot unfolds along the Kiso River in the Tono region of Gifu Prefecture. It refers to the large artificial lake that was created in 1924 (Taisho 13) by damming the rapids of the Kiso River with the Oi Dam, and the scenic beauty of both banks, and was designated a prefectural natural park in 1954 (Showa 29). It straddles the cities of Ena and Nakatsugawa, and over its 12 kilometers of flooded water, you can see strange rocks and bizarre stones such as the Umbrella Rock, the Byobu Rock, and the Gunkan Rock, which change beautifully throughout the seasons. Enakyo Onsen and Enakyo Wonderland are also nearby. Transportation is convenient, with access to the Chuo Expressway, and it takes about an hour from Nagoya Station to Ena Station on the JR Chuo Main Line. From the station, it is a 15-minute bus ride away. There are also sightseeing boats.
