An independent Tendai temple located in Onjoji-cho , Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture. It was originally the head temple of Onjoji (Mii-dera). It was founded by Prince Goen in 987 and was originally called Byodo-in. Later, after receiving the patronage of Fujiwara no Yorimichi, the temple name was transferred to Uji Byodo-in and renamed to its current name. Sakurai no Miya (Muro). 滋賀県大津市園城寺(おんじょうじ)町にある天台系単立寺院。もと園城寺(三井寺)の本坊。寛和三年(九八七)悟円法親王の創建で、初めは平等院と称した。のち藤原頼通の帰依をうけ、寺号を宇治平等院に移し現名に改称。桜井の宮(室)。
