From Odin

According to the Edda, Odin was the son of Bor and the giantess Bestla, and had Baldr with his wife Frigg, as well as sons such as Thor, Tyr, and Heimdall with many other giantesses. [Germanic Folklore]
Perhaps because of its fast growth, flexible branches, and white bark, the birch (Betula arvensis) was considered a tree of life, growth, and blessings by the Germanic peoples since ancient times.
