Japanese: エナガ(柄長) - エナガ（英語表記）long‐tailed tit

A bird of the passerine family Long-tailed tit (illustration), or a general term for birds of the Long-tailed tit family. Total length about 14 cm. Smaller than a sparrow, with a long tail. Sexes are the same color. The body is white, but the lower back and underbelly are grape-colored. The thick brow line, upper back, wings, and tail are black. It is widely distributed in the mid-latitudes of Eurasia, and in Japan it is a resident bird from Kyushu onwards, but those in Hokkaido have pure white heads and are considered a separate subspecies. It prefers deciduous broadleaf forests in lowlands and mountains, or mixed forests of pine and evergreen trees, and is often found in secondary forests. It vocalizes constantly, moves around busily, and makes detailed movements.

スズメ目エナガ科の鳥（イラスト），またはエナガ科の鳥の総称。全長約14cm。スズメより小さく，尾が長い。雌雄同色。体は白いが，腰や下腹部はブドウ色を帯びている。太い眉線と上背，翼，尾は黒い。ユーラシア大陸の中緯度地方に多く分布し，日本では九州以北に留鳥としてすみ，北海道のものは頭部が真っ白で別亜種とされる。低地や山地の落葉広葉樹林，あるいはマツ林と常緑樹林の混合林を好み，二次林に多い。たえず発声し，気ぜわしく動いていて，動作が細かい。
