Karl Krolow

German poet. Born in Hannover. Initially, he followed the tradition of nature lyric poetry by Eich and others. In view of the total collapse and loss of meaning caused by the Second World War, he opposed the closed and reactionary tendency of G. Benn's obscure and skilled poetry, and advocated "open poetry" based on simple metaphors, which made him one of the leading poets of the former West Germany after the war. His translations of French surrealism and Spanish poetry, as well as his astute criticism, also had a great influence on him. He has published many collections of poems, including "The Invisible Hand" (1962), "Hegel and Autumn Sonnets" (1981), and "The Second Hour" (1995). In later years, he also wrote stories.

ドイツの詩人。ハノーバーの生まれ。初めはアイヒらの自然叙情詩の流れをくむ。第二次世界大戦によるすべての崩壊と意味喪失を見据え、G・ベンの晦渋(かいじゅう)で巧芸的な詩作の閉鎖反動的傾向に反対して、簡潔な比喩(ひゆ)に基づく「開かれた詩」を提唱、戦後の旧西ドイツの代表的詩人に数えられる。フランス超現実主義やスペインの詩の翻訳、また犀利(さいり)な批評も影響が大きい。『見えぬ手』（1962）、『ヘーゲルと秋のソネット』（1981）、『第二の時』（1995）など詩集多数。後年は物語も執筆。
