Mount Ena

It is the highest mountain in Mino, rising to the southeast of downtown Nakatsugawa, Gifu Prefecture, on the border with Achi Village, Shimoina County, Nagano Prefecture. It has an altitude of 2,191 meters. It is the center of Enasan Prefectural Natural Park. It is well-forested all the way to the summit, and there is a large national forest. There is also a colony of Enkianthus campanulatus along the way. From the hiking trail, you can see Mt. Ontake and the Japanese Alps. There are four entrances to the mountain: Misaka Pass, Hirokawara, Kuroisawa, and Maemiya, but there are no bus services, so you must take a taxi or your own car to get there. The Hirokawara course, which was built in 2001, is the shortest route with steep slopes and takes about three and a half hours to reach the summit. In addition, the main shrine of Ena Shrine is located near the summit, and Ena Shrine (Satomiya), known for Ena Bunraku (puppet theater), is located at the western foot of the mountain. The Chuo Expressway's Enasan Tunnel (total length 8,489 meters) runs through the area to the north, almost directly below Fujimidai. The tunnel connects Kamisaka in Nakatsugawa City with Achi Village in Nagano Prefecture, and was completed in 1975 after eight years of difficult construction, encountering many faults and fracture zones.

岐阜県中津川市の市街地南東方、長野県下伊那(しもいな)郡阿智村(あちむら)との境にそびえ、美濃(みの)第一の高山。標高2191メートル。胞山(えなさん)県立自然公園の中心。山頂まで樹木がよく茂り、国有林が広い。また、途中にサラサドウダンの群落がある。登山道から御嶽(おんたけ)山や日本アルプスなどが展望される。神坂(みさか)峠、広河原、黒井沢、前宮の四つの入山口があるが、バス便がないので、タクシーか自家用車での登山となる。2001年（平成13）にできた急坂の最短ルートとなる広河原コースで山頂まで約3時間半の道のり。なお、山頂付近に恵那神社本社、西麓(せいろく)に恵那文楽(ぶんらく)（人形浄瑠璃(じょうるり)）で知られる恵那神社（里宮）がある。また北方、富士見台のほぼ直下を中央自動車道の恵那山トンネル（全長8489メートル）が通じている。トンネルは中津川市神坂と長野県阿智村を結ぶもので、多くの断層、破砕帯に遭遇した難工事で、8年の歳月を費やして1975年（昭和50）完成した。
