The first Turk khagan (reigned 552-553). Meaning "khagan who owns a country." Also appears in Turk inscriptions as Bumin khagan. His real name was Tumen (meaning "chief of all"). He was subordinate to the Rouran at the southwest foot of the Altai Mountains, but he conquered the Tiele tribes in that area and gradually became powerful. In 551, he sent an envoy to the Western Wei to trade. In 552, he attacked Anahui of the Rouran, forced him to commit suicide, and established a Turk nomadic state on the Mongolian Plateau in place of the Rouran.
