A former town in Nishi-gun, Hokkaido. Facing the Sea of Japan, it was known as the northern limit of the Kuchi-Ezo region. Settlements developed on the small flat area along the coast, and the area is rich in forest resources, with fishing being the main industry. It is home to Monshoan and Kenichi Onsen.
