It means "ethnic group" in Greek. As an ethnological term, it was first seriously discussed by Russian ethnologist SM Shirokogorov, and the importance of this concept was made clear by German ethnologist W.E.Mühlmann (1904-) and others. Ethnos refers to the largest independent unit group that shares the same cultural traditions and has a sense of belonging together, such as "we are such-and-such people." Thus, one etnos can be a band, a clan, a tribe, or even a caste, depending on the circumstances. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
