...The former is an alloy, while the latter is a magnet made of the ferrimagnetic compound barium and iron oxide (barium ferrite) or strontium and iron oxide (strontium ferrite). Oxides were first developed as magnets in 1933 by the Japanese scientists Yogoro Kato and Takeshi Takei, who used cobalt ferrite, a compound oxide of cobalt and iron, and named it OP magnets. Today, barium ferrite has replaced OP magnets as the most common oxide magnet, and its advantage is that it does not use expensive materials such as cobalt or nickel.

…前者は合金であるが，後者はフェリ磁性体であるバリウムと鉄の複合酸化物(バリウムフェライト)，またはストロンチウムと鉄の複合酸化物(ストロンチウムフェライト)を材料とする磁石である。　酸化物が磁石として開発されたのは，1933年日本の加藤与五郎および武井武によってで，コバルトと鉄の複合酸化物であるコバルトフェライトを用い，OP磁石と名付けられた。現在ではOP磁石に代わってバリウム系フェライトが代表的な酸化物磁石となっており，コバルトとかニッケルなどの高価な材料を用いていないことが有利な点である。…
