It has a thick rhizome that crawls along the ground and, as its name suggests, usually produces two leaves from the tip. The leaves have long petioles, are circular-cordate shaped, thin, and have sparse hairs on the edges. In spring, as the leaves unfold, a peduncle shorter than the petiole emerges between the leaves, at the end of which a single tubular flower hangs downward. The sepals are dirty yellow-white with a purple-brown tinge.
