Yasumura Kengyo

Japanese:
Yasumura Kengyo
[raw]?
[Died] 1779
A blind jiuta koto performer and composer. His Ichina (Ichinā) was Yoriichi. He is said to have been a student of Tanaka Kengyo on the shamisen and Kurahashi Kengyo (a student of Ikuta Kengyo) on the koto, or of Mitsuhashi Kengyo, who was a student of Ikuta Kengyo. He served as the general inspector of the shokuyashiki for three years from June 1768 (Meiwa 5). To supplement the "Kinkyokushō" that had been published by Yatsuhashi Kengyo, he compiled koto group songs and published the revised "Nadesō Gafushū" (50). As the last work in this collection was his own "Hien no Kyoku," it is said that he prohibited himself from composing group songs, but in fact he continued to compose many new pieces after that. In the "Yanoichizoban Kinuta no Fushohon" (A compilation of scores from Yanoichizoban Kinuta), he is listed as the composer of "Shichidan."
