Year of death: November 1, 1742 (November 27, 1742) Year of birth: 1680 A shogunate official and historical scholar in the mid-Edo period. Commonly known as Yajuro, his pen name was Yomi. He was the third son of shogunate official Negishi Naotoshi, but was adopted by fellow shogunate official Kimura Yoshihisa. He became the chief official of the shogunate in 1719 (Kyoho 4), and subsequently served as a new official and Nishimaru cook, before becoming the head of the Nishimaru Hiroshiki in 1741 (Kanpo 1). During this time, he worked to collect and organize historical materials on the deeds of Tokugawa Ieyasu, and wrote the Butoku Henenshusei, a biography of Ieyasu. This attracted the attention of the eighth shogun, Yoshimune, who was dissatisfied with the credibility of the articles in the Butoku Taiseiki, the official record of Ieyasu's deeds up until that point, and he presented it to him in 1741. He also wrote other books, such as Buke Kandan and Butoku Anminki. (Kiyoryo Komiya) Source: Asahi Japanese Historical Biography: Asahi Shimbun Publications Inc.
