Ihara Usaburo

Japanese: 伊原宇三郎 - いはらうさぶろう

1894-1976 A Western-style painter from the Taisho and Showa periods.
Born October 26, 1894. He studied under Fujishima Takeji and was selected for the Teiten exhibition while attending Tokyo School of Fine Arts (now Tokyo University of the Arts). In 1925, he married Yuki Shigeko (later divorced) and studied in France. He served as an assistant professor at his alma mater from 1932. In 1941, he founded the Japan Artists Association and became its chairman. He passed away on January 5, 1976. He was 81 years old. He was from Tokushima Prefecture. His works include "Leaning on a Chair" and "Two People".

明治27年10月26日生まれ。藤島武二に師事し,東京美術学校(現東京芸大)在学中に帝展に入選した。大正14年由起しげ子と結婚(のち離婚)し,フランスに留学。昭和7年から母校の助教授をつとめる。24年日本美術家連盟を創立し委員長となる。昭和51年1月5日死去。81歳。徳島県出身。作品に「椅子によれる」「二人」など。
